YouTube money calculator

Turn views into an estimated earnings figure for long-form video, Shorts or a 24/7 live stream. Set your audience country and niche, and see the result in Indian rupees or US dollars. Unlike most calculators, this one accounts for the fact that ads do not serve on every view, so the number is closer to what actually lands in your account.

How much money do you make on YouTube per 1,000 views?

Between roughly $0.25 and $14 per 1,000 monetized playbacks, depending almost entirely on where your audience lives and what your channel is about. A finance channel with a US audience sits at the top of that range. A music or gaming channel with an Indian audience sits at the bottom. View count is the input everyone focuses on, but audience country is what actually sets the rate.

Views to money: what the calculator is actually doing

Converting views to money takes two steps, and most calculators skip the second one. That is why their numbers come in high and yours come in low.

Step 1: RPM, not CPM

CPM is what an advertiser pays per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what reaches you, after YouTube keeps its 45% share. RPM is always the smaller number and the only one that matters to your bank balance. If a calculator quotes CPM as your earnings, it is overstating by roughly double.

Step 2: monetized playbacks

An ad does not serve on every view. Roughly 60% of long-form views serve one; on live and background content it can fall to a third, because a single viewer may watch for hours and be counted once. Multiply total views by RPM and you get a fantasy. This calculator applies the gap before it does the maths.

The practical takeaway: open YouTube Studio, go to Analytics → Revenue, and read your own RPM and your own monetized playbacks. Then come back and put those into the calculator. Everything else on this page is a starting estimate; that screen is the truth.

YouTube money calculator for India: earnings in rupees

An Indian audience typically earns ₹22 to ₹160 per 1,000 monetized playbacks on long-form video, which works out to about $0.25 to $1.80. That is among the lowest RPM bands in the world, because advertisers bid less for the Indian market than for the US or UK.

Two consequences follow. First, raw view count matters more in India than almost anywhere else, because each view is worth so much less. Second, and more usefully, Indian creators generally earn considerably more from sponsorships, affiliate links and their own products than from AdSense. If you are building a channel in India and treating ad revenue as the plan, the numbers above are worth sitting with.

Switch the audience country to India in the calculator and the output flips to rupees automatically. The exchange rate is editable, so the figure does not go stale.

YouTube Shorts money calculator

Shorts pay roughly $0.01 to $0.20 per 1,000 views, which is 50 to 100 times less than long-form. They are funded from a separate shared pool built from ads in the Shorts feed, and creators receive a portion of what remains after music licensing is paid out.

In practical terms a Short that does 1 million views might earn under $100, while a long-form video with the same views on a US audience could earn twenty times that. This is why treating Shorts as a revenue engine disappoints people. They are a discovery mechanism: use them to find an audience, then monetize that audience through long-form, memberships or something you sell.

YouTube live stream money calculator (24/7 channels)

A 24/7 live stream holding 30 to 50 concurrent viewers typically earns tens to low hundreds of dollars a month in ad revenue. Live and background content carries the lowest RPM on the platform, because people leave it playing in a tab rather than actively watching, and one viewer watching for six hours is not six views.

The real value of a 24/7 stream is not the ad revenue at all. It is watch hours. A stream holding 30 viewers around the clock generates 720 watch hours a day, so it clears the 4,000-hour Partner Programme threshold faster than any other format on YouTube. Most creators spend a year stuck there.

Two things will stop you earning from one. If the stream plays music you do not have broadcast rights to, Content ID will match it and the revenue goes to the rights holder, not you. And if the stream is simply someone else’s video on a loop, it can fail monetization review as reused content. Use audio you are licensed to broadcast continuously, and make the stream genuinely yours.

You do not need a PC left switched on to run one. See how a 24/7 stream is set up, or work out what running one costs.

What changes your RPM

After audience country, your topic is the biggest lever. Advertisers bid by how valuable your viewers are to them, so the same view is worth several times more on a finance channel than an entertainment one.

YouTube RPM multiplier by channel niche
NicheRPM multiplierWhy
Finance / investing2.4×Brokers and fintech bid hardest for this audience.
Business / marketing2.0×B2B software advertisers with high customer value.
Tech / software1.5×Strong purchase intent, competitive ad auctions.
Education / how-to1.2×Course and tool advertisers, decent intent.
General / vlog1.0×The baseline everything else is measured against.
Gaming0.8×Young audience, lower advertiser willingness to pay.
Entertainment / comedy0.75×Huge reach, weak commercial intent.
Music / lofi / ambient0.55×Background listening plus frequent Content ID claims.

Season matters too. RPM tends to peak in Q4 as advertisers spend year-end budgets, and drops sharply in January. A channel earning well in December and badly in January has usually not done anything wrong.

Before any of this: are you eligible to earn?

None of these numbers apply until you are in the YouTube Partner Programme. There are two routes in, and you need one of them plus an AdSense account and no active Community Guidelines strikes.

Route 1

1,000 subscribers + 4,000 watch hours

Valid public watch hours accumulated over the past 12 months. Live stream watch time counts, which is why 24/7 channels clear this threshold so quickly.

Route 2

1,000 subscribers + 10M Shorts views

Counted over 90 days. Far harder than it sounds, and it puts you on the Shorts RPM band, which is the lowest on the platform.

YouTube earnings FAQ

How much money do you make on YouTube per 1,000 views?

Between roughly $0.25 and $14 per 1,000 monetized playbacks, depending on where your audience is and what your channel is about. A finance channel with a US audience sits at the top of that range; a music or gaming channel with an Indian audience sits at the bottom. The single biggest factor is audience country, not view count.

What is a YouTube money calculator?

A YouTube money calculator estimates ad revenue by multiplying your views by an assumed RPM, the amount you keep per 1,000 monetized playbacks. A good one also accounts for the fact that ads do not serve on every view, which is why estimates from view count alone tend to run high.

How much money is 1 million views on YouTube?

For a general channel with a US audience, 1 million views is roughly $1,800 to $4,000 in ad revenue. For the same channel with an Indian audience it is closer to $150 to $400. For Shorts it can be under $100 regardless of country, because Shorts are paid from a separate and much smaller ad pool.

How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views in India?

Typically ₹22 to ₹160 per 1,000 monetized playbacks for long-form video, which is roughly $0.25 to $1.80. Indian RPMs are among the lowest globally because advertisers bid less for the market, so Indian creators generally earn more from sponsorships and affiliate deals than from ad revenue.

Is RPM the same as CPM?

No. CPM is what an advertiser pays per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube takes its cut. RPM is what actually lands in your account per 1,000 views after YouTube's 45% share and after accounting for views that served no ad. RPM is always the lower number and it is the only one that matters to your bank balance.

Why is my actual YouTube revenue lower than the calculator says?

Almost always because ads do not serve on every view. A view only earns when a monetized ad plays, and that happens on roughly 60% of long-form views and far fewer on live or background content. Calculators that multiply total views by RPM ignore this and overstate earnings. Check your real figure in YouTube Studio under Analytics, then the Revenue tab.

How much money does a 24/7 live stream make?

Usually tens to low hundreds of dollars a month. Live and background streams have the lowest RPM on the platform because viewers leave them playing in a tab rather than actively watching. Their real value is that they build the 4,000 watch hours needed for monetization far faster than uploads do.

How many views do you need to make money on YouTube?

Views alone are not the requirement. To earn ad revenue you need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 valid public watch hours in the past 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. Only once you are in the YouTube Partner Program do views convert to money.

How much do YouTube Shorts pay?

Roughly $0.01 to $0.20 per 1,000 views, which is 50 to 100 times less than long-form. Shorts are paid from a shared pool funded by ads in the Shorts feed, and creators receive a portion after music licensing costs are deducted. Shorts are a discovery tool, not a revenue engine.

Does a YouTube money calculator include sponsorships?

No. This calculator estimates ad revenue only. For most channels outside the US, sponsorships, affiliate links, memberships and product sales earn considerably more than ads, so treat the ad number as a floor rather than your total income.
